PROJECT: ART DIRECTION EDITORIAL DESIGN AND SOCIAL MEDIA DESIGN
CLIENT: CURIOSITY.COM
Working in the fast paced start-up environment creating a visual voice for editorial content that spanned web, social media, and app graphics curiosity.com. The graphics are to embody the curiosity philosophy of learning new and interesting things in an easy to digest way. The editorial package for each article included five different graphics: thumbnail, banner graphic, app graphic, and supplemental images that add both visual interest and inform the user.
This work has challenged me to learn how to work lean and smart so as to consistently put out compelling imagery on tight deadlines that will engage viewership. Working with Junior Designers and Freelancers I guided the brand voice and advocated for potential changes to boost engagement while maintaining the user experience.
During the two years I worked for curiosity.com I created over 1300 editorial graphic packages. The topics had a wide range of requirements with some requiring very specific images and others needing artistic representation of abstract concepts.
Sourced images and created graphics for social and app.
The collection of social graphics for curiosity.com. I have both created graphics and led the art direction for the editorial content.
You can view more of the editorial articles here, I have both designed and art directed all editorial content for the past two years.
Creating a logo to represent a brand requires understanding the company and the vision they have. Featured here are a variety of logos I have created.
Starting with a new logo for the Outlets of Las Vegas. Created for part of a large re-branding effort the center is currently undergoing. The color selection and modern feel were important to the client in conveying a high end shopping experience.
Pinnacle Home Stagers reached out to have a logo created that spoke to a modern outlook where these designers can create an atmosphere that will make your home sell for an increased value with their services.
The Gang Green logo allowed me to have a bit more fun and humor in this piece as it was for a little league team where the chosen mascot was a bear and the company sponsor was Gang Green. The logo was kept in black and white since it was being printed on a jersey.
The last logo BEOL was created for an individuals personal brand. To be used as part of their job search and is centered around the key words Business, Entrepreneurship, Operations, and Logistics.
PROJECT: INFO GRAPHICS
CLIENT: CYBERVISE
Info graphics all serve the purpose of informing a viewer within the digital realm using design to make information interesting and engaging. This is often used for giving information that can normally be very academic and creating a visual language to assist that information in being understood by the viewer. Info graphics link a hard to understand concept to a simple real world example. In the graphics explaining SEO plans I used the symbols laid in a toy model kit. This combined the idea of each component being its own unique piece of a larger model.
These graphics are also used for branding social media to make a page easily identified. Viewers have been trained to look for identifying marks on things such as a logo to show the authenticity of that product or page. Keeping the branded design across a business's online presence is important and gives the viewer a consistent experience.
PROJECT: WEBSITES FOR VARIOUS COMPANIES
CLIENT: CYBERVISE
A website needs to be an extension of the business and brand while also being a salesman. Knowing your audience and the best way to grab their attention and engage them is done through usability. How can the viewer find the information they are searching for quickly and in a visually pleasing experience? Each website I worked on designing always started with navigation, looking at the best way to lay out the information for the viewer. Second came the visual design that matched the brand and image a business is working to project. This includes considering what fonts to use, photography, and incorporating social media. The third state is to bring all these different items together into one cohesive website.
The last part of any good website design is to continue to refine the website based on the data you collect from your audience. Web analytics are key today to taking note of how a person engages with the website and where there are areas that do not deliver the experience people are looking for. The web is constantly evolving and to maintain a strong online experience continued refinement of the website is key.
